Dogfang eyed the camp. Then let out a deep stretch. She spotted Leafswirl and padded over to him. "Hello, how are you doing today?" she meowed

Leafswirl was glad to have company. Company usually only happened if things were bad, like a sick or injured cat. "Hello there Dogfang. I'm doing well." Was the brief reply.

Smokestar emerged from his den. He spotted Leafswirl and Dogfang talking together. He just nodded to them.

Leafswirl watched their leader exit his den as he waited for a reply from Dogfang. Where's he going?

Smokestar stretched and padded over to the fresh-kill pile. The stock was low because of leafbare and he growled with dis-satisfaction. He picked up a frog from the pile and brought it back to his den to eat it alone.

Dogfang looked as Smokestar padded back to his den. "What's with him?" she asked Leafswirl.

"These days? I Don't know." Leafswirl replied with a frown. "The burden of a clan in leafbare can bring any cat down." They needed more freshkill and herbs. All of their herbs were of really low supply.

Leafswirl didn't know that feeling. Medicine cat was pretty similar to leader. Lots of responsibility and work. He didn't know how to respond. "Yeah, you're right." Was all he could think to respond.

"I mean, deciding if to invade a camp or to challenge another clan at the gathering. I would probably freak out and give up on trying." Dogfang smelled the herbs coming from Leafswirl's den. It was weaker than normal. "You seem low on herbs."

Leafswirl flinched the minutest bit. He didn't know that Dogfang would be able to tell. "Yea, well, it's leafbare all the herb supplies are low." He hoped there wouldn't be a major battle. He didn't know if they had the herbs for that.

"Nobody can." He said looking bleakly to the sky. He couldn't wait for newleaf. He was less than ecstatic at the lack of herbs.

She flicked her ears as a breeze blew out of nowhere with a hint of warmth. "What made you want to be a Medicine cat?" she asked out of the blue.

"Hm. I bet memorizing all the uses for those herbs are hard. I mean..." She stopped herself. What was she doing? She was a warrior! Not a medicine cat! She silently scolded herself. Just making conversation, she resolved.

"I guess. But once you know them it's hard to forget." He could easily remember most of the herbs by smell and looks, and only a few he couldn't find by name.

Smokestar sat all alone in his den, not knowing what to do with himself. From the shadows of his den, he looked out at camp and sighed. His blue gaze came to the fresh-kill pile and once again reminded himself that it was low. Leafbare was indeed the worst time to be a leader. His clan may go hungry and so may he.
